Globsyn Skills partners with EduSkill for business synergy and testing solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two companies is signed on 18th December in Kolkata.

As per the MOU, Globsyn Skills will set up Certiport Authorized Testing Centers for Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams under Globsyn network. Fair focuses on 'Skilling India' 17th November 2012

Amid the buying and selling of exquisite items crafted by skillful artisans at the 32nd India International Trade Fair at PragatiMaidan, a more serious business is going on, in sync with this year’s theme: “Skilling India”.

The fair not only has pavilions based on the theme, but also a range of seminars and conferences are being held as part of the programme to discuss issues related to skills education. The national skill development mission aims at training 500 million people by 2022.

After one of the brainstorming session on Thursday, PoojaGianchandani, Director of Skills Development at FICCI, said almost 60 lakh youth in West Bengal would receive training over the next 10 years to hone their skills or learn new ones.

Official delegations from the world’s nine most populous developing countries just met in New Delhi to discuss a subject vital for their countries’ futures: education. The meeting of ministers and others from Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan, known as the E-9, is the latest in a series of encounters held every two years to fulfill the pledge of “education for all” by 2015. The E-9 account for 54% of the world’s population, 42.3% of children not in school, 58% of young illiterates (aged 15-24), and 67% of adult illiterates (two-thirds of whom are women). So the challenges are enormous: children, from families too poor to think about education, beyond the reach of schooling and too malnourished to study; and too few schools, classrooms, teaching resources, and adequately trained teachers. Rampant illiteracy underpins other problems, including exploding populations, gender imbalances, and widespread poverty.Read more…

Nasscom Hammad Abedin, from NASSCOM Foundation recently visited Rahon, Punjab where Sardar Kartar Singh Memorial Society for Education & Welfare is running 6 NKN centers for more than 3 years. Currently, About 400 children are enrolled and getting education in 50 different courses in these centers. In their latest venture SKS has partnered with Certiport and became an authorized CATC (Certiport Authorized Testing Center) under EduSkill Approved Network. As CATC the centre is authorised to conduct Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam.
Eduskills the national partner for Certiport and has expressed interest in the NKN for setting up Certiport testing centers. The Foundation is really excited at this development and we will update you soon on the deliberations. Read More …
Film biz to get 11.7m trained workers 3rd October 2012

Addressing the demand for skilled workers in the film and entertainment industry, Media and Entertainment Skill Council (MESC), is set to train more than 11.7 million people over the next 10 years for roles such as lighting, scriptwriting, electric work and tailoring.

MESC, a unit of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), will work closely with the National Skill Development Corporation as a sector-skill council initiative to achieve these targets. MESC will establish standards for 10 professions in the first year. The entertainment sector will have seven sub-sectors and each of them is likely to have its own targets, said an official.

HP Launches Business-ready IT Training & Certification Program 26th September 2012

HP has announced the India launch of the HP Institute, an academic partnership programme that will equip students with business-ready IT skills that are greatly needed within the industry. The HP Institute is part of the HP ExpertOneprogramme and will offer HP Accredited Technical Associate (ATA) certifications. The launch in India follows the introduction of the HP Institute in the UK in February 2012.

As part of the training programme, HP will work with Indian universities to bring practical experience and job-ready skills into an academic setting, packaged in a way to help India develop the abilities of its graduate workforce. Read More …

HP launches huge skills initiative in India 26th September 2012

Hewlett-Packard plans to train 500,000engineering graduates across the world and make them employment-ready over the next five years. Of these, 65,000 will be in India.

HP, through what it calls HP Institute, will rope in 350 universities in India to take this initiative forward. The programme offers four accredited technical associate certifications covering industry-standard technologies, courseware, practice tests, hands-on remote labs and certification exams. 50% engg grads worse at English than Class 7 students 25th July 2012

India may be the biggest producer of engineering graduates across the world, but about half the number can't match Class 7 students of the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) when it comes to English grammar skills.

Nasscom, an IT industry body, pointed out this problem in 2011, when it stated that almost 50% of the engineers in India were unemployable. Only a meagre 25% of the graduates were found worthy of employment without in-house training.

IBA approves vocational education loan scheme 12th June 2012
Live Mint The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) approved a vocational education loan scheme that provides an impetus to the country's skill mission, part of a thrust to improve the efficiency of the labour force and boost the economy.

With India targeting to teach skills to around 500 million people by 2022, the scheme will help not just students but also skill providers complaining of low enrolment due to financial reasons.

"IBA has finally approved the scheme and we see this as a very important ingredient to achieve the goal," said J.P. Rai, executive director, Prime Minister's National Council on Skill Development, confirming the development. Read more...
